Theater Plays
There was five plays SDSU Arts Alive wanted to discuss and bring attention on important topics such as racism, mental health, dealing with loss, exclusion and more. I was assigned to pick three plays out of the five to represent and create a constant strategy on detail, on my interpretation of each play. The creators provided hints on what the stories of the plays were about and set terms and ideas they had for the play. As well, through the experience of the music provided, inspiration and short story behind each play.
Spring 2021
Task
Through finding a connection, on what could make the posters be seen as part of the same program; being Arts Alive SDSU, I found about auras and their meaning based on color and made mesh gradients to create a combination of the emotions and impact each play wanted to portray. Think out of the box, not creating the obvious of what the play or the name of the play is saying but to gather ideas through the information given and what we see and feel.
Strategy
Client interview, keywords, music, research emotions and topics portrayed on the three plays.

RESEARCH
The focus is bringing the aspect of auras to represent the scene of three gods and Miku on the same journey. The outlook of ghostly abstract figures, brings the idea more into the picture bringing out your inner emotions and dreams out in the world. The green god representing healing. The ivory god representing highly spiritual and calming. The orange representing determination which leads to the idea of Miku wanting to be a god. Having Miku in a magenta color is a representation of strong will, with the integration of the rainbow colors being the overall process of dealing with loss. Grief is represented through the blue, purple and gray colors.
The figure in the poster is an imagery representation of the main theme of dementia and the tone of healing, overcoming and coping. Combined the energy and the different stages, the body goes through experiencing grief and loss. As well, connecting to the symbolism in the poem by Robert Frost.
The focus was to bring the main character into the scene, Emma Reed being the gray figure, to represent the awakening of the character on the problem with discrimination. The green figures are a representation of the settlers and the taking action, listening to the main character. Emma empowering others to do good, speak out and showing respect. It is a scene of all coming together to enjoy each other’s company and food. The black integrated on one side of the simplified form of a pie, is to represent the bad and the ugly of being excluded and how discrimination effects not only the life of a few but also everyone around them.
